Autism Acceptance Month is nearing an end and it was marked by Governor Ron DeSantis in Jupiter on Monday.

The governor was at the Els Center of Excellence, which provides resources to people with autism and developmental disabilities.

"We're going to have more than $2.2 billion for Agency for Persons with Disabilities."

He gave the center $1 million in state funding to develop a new recreation facility that will provide a specialized swim and water safety program as well as a special austism-friendly hurricane shelter.

The Els Center was founded by golf legend Ernie Els and his wife after their son Ben was diagnosed with autism. Els thanked the governor and spoke about how grateful he is to have relocated to Florida from his native South Africa.

"I wanted to go live in Texas when I came here. I am so glad I came to Florida. Everything this state has given us and keeps giving us is incredible."

Liezel Els made sure everyone knew why the couple wound up in the Sunshine State, when they relocated from South Africa.

"He has his wife to thank for Florida and not Texas, just saying."
